Since the market turned a few months ago, we set out to talk to hundreds of professionals about how they feel about starting a company this year.
Before the summer, everyone had a hypothesis for a business that they wanted to start because entrepreneurship has become extremely hot in pop culture.
But since the market turned, all we started to hear were excuses as to why now isn’t the right time to get started.
To which I ask; has anything great ever happened at the right time?
On the outside, people today are fearful for their jobs and financial stability.
But what’s actually happening is that they’re fearful of how it might look to others if they take a step backward on their track.
And that makes sense; it’s human nature to play it safe.
And I get it; if you have to take care of a family, or can’t afford to quit your job right now, or don’t have enough free hours in the day to work on something new — then now absolutely is not the right time. Focus on your priorities, and revisit entrepreneurship when you have more financial freedom.
But if you can make it happen and if you’re the type of person who is allergic to playing it safe, then there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be building right now. Even if it’s a small side hustle that you build on nights and weekends.
Day One exists for those people, and they’re the ones who thrive in our community. These are the people who make no excuses and eat risk for breakfast. They’re allergic to the status quo. And even though the market is turbulent right now, they’re crushing it.
I’m sure you’ve seen a ton of tweets lately and overheard people talking about how NOW is the time to build. Or "to zig while others zag". But when it comes down to actually taking that first step, VERY few actually do it.
Everyone loves to talk about making the jump, until it’s time to actually jump.
Well, are you ready to jump? Join us.
Our co-founders sat down with Gary Vaynerchuk last spring to talk about this exact topic. Check out the full podcast episode here:
